Famous film composer Goran Bregovic and his Wedding and Funeral Band arrived Wednesday in Sofia to stage a concert at the capital's Nai Club.

Hours before his performance, the Serbian musician gave a press conference, where he answered mainly questions related to the recently declared Kosovo independence.

"I am a musician and my profession has nothing to do with politics," Bregovic said.

"My language is comprehensible in contrast to the politicians' one," he added.

Asked if he would agree to compose Kosovo's anthem, Bregovic has clearly explained he is not good at writing such works.

The composer visits Bulgaria for the fifth time to stay in Sofia for just few hours. After that he is to leave for Portugal for his next performance.

For over ten years, since he abandoned pure rock in 1985, the music of Goran Bregovic had never been performed live. It all changes in 1995 when, with a band of ten traditional musicians, a choir of fifty singers and a symphonic orchestra, he undertakes a series of concerts in Greece and Sweden.

Goran Bregovic has visited Sofia also for the official start of shooting the Bulgarian movie "Fly with Rosinant", whose music author is Bregovic himself.

Among the most significant works of the Serbian composer are music for Kusturica's "Times of the Gypsies" and the original soundtrack for "Arizona Dream", which made him worldwide popular.

In 1994 Patrice Chereau entrusts him with the music for "La Reine Margot", awarded with Palme d'Or at the Cannes Film Festival.

The music for Emir Kusturica's "Underground", Palme d'Or at the 1995 Cannes Film Festival, was also signed by Goran Bregovic. Only the three-year-tiresome labour on the film prevented him from composing for the next Kosturica movie "White Cat Black Cat".
