An earthquake with a magnitude of 5.3 shook Britain early on Wednesday, causing minor damage, although no injuries were immediately reported.

The earthquake struck at 12:56 am, as its epicentre was in Lincolnshire on England's east coast, some 190 kilometres north of London, BBC said.

The 10-second tremor was felt in north, mid and south Wales, as well as in large parts of England, including Newcastle, Yorkshire, London, Manchester, the Midlands and Norfolk.

According to the British Geological Survey, the earthquake was the biggest since a tremor with a 5.4 magnitude in north Wales in 1984.
