Poland Recognizes Kosovo The breakaway Serbia province of Kosovo has already been recognized by 19 countries after Poland did so on Tuesday.

Poland became Monday the nineteenth country to officially recognize independent Kosovo.

"This was not an easy decision for Poland because our nations has close relations with Serbia", Poland's PM Donal Tusk declared.

Tusk added that if Russia and China wanted to play a major role in European politics, they needed to take the US and the EU into account. He also expressed Poland's hopes that minority rights in Kosovo would be strictly protected.

The Polish Foreign Minister Radoslav Shikorski declared Poland's readiness to send a mission to Kosovo, and said he hope his country would manage to preserve its good relations with Serbia.

Serbia recalled Tuesday its ambassadors from Belgium and Peru after the two countries recognize independent Kosovo.
