An anonymous donor donated USD 130 M to help the recovery of Bangladesh's cyclone-devastated southern coast, ABS News reported Wednesday.
The money, deposited with the Islamic Development Bank, will be used to construct more than 500 schools that can also be used as community storm shelters.
"This is the biggest single donation by an individual in the country's history," finance ministry official said.
"We do not want to know the name of the donor, as the IDB maintains strict confidentiality, but it is a very good news for millions of people " he explained.
Disaster-prone Bangladesh's southern coastal districts were hit by Cyclone Sidr on November 15 last year.
It wiped out villages, infrastructure and crops, killed more than 3,300 people and left millions homeless and dependent on food aid.
Bangladesh has appealed for USD 2.2 B in aid for the area, and has received more than USD 500 M in pledges.
