The first modernized power saving tram is to start moving across the streets of Sofia in the beginning of March, announced Tuesday the deputy head of the capital's Public Transport Company Yanko Tsanev.
The company, which will implement the project, is the Czech Inecom. It is also to renovate 17 other motor cars until the end of the year in accordance with its contract with Sofia Municipality.
The new trams will be equipped with induction motors that allow the reversion of 40% of the power used for the machines' moving back to the net.
The lighting and heating in the modern trams will be much better than they are in the currently used ones.
The low floors of the vehicles are especially adjusted to the needs of the disabled people and the dark windows will protect the passengers from the direct sunlight.
