The only survivor so far after the shipwreck of Bulgarian cargo vessel Vanessa, which foundered in the Azov Sea on Thursday, was welcomed home on Wednesday.

Mechanic Nikolay Dimitrov, who was rescued after spending 10 hours in the ice cold waters, landed in Istanbul and then arrived by car in the coastal city of Burgas to be welcomed by his relatives.

The seaman's wife Veneta thanked God for keeping her husband's life and said she prays for the other missing sailors to be found alive.

Dimitrov told reporters that he will speak to the media about the tragedy on Thursday.

Vanessa shipwrecked with eleven crewmembers aboard just 22 nautical miles from the Gulf of Kerch, which is notoriously tricky during the winter season.

Bulgarian investigators are working on six versions concerning the reasons for the ship's sinking, National Investigation Service official Georgi Iliev said on Tuesday.

Iliev added that the investigation on the case will last for at least three months.

Authorities also expect the dead bodies of two of the crewmembers of the ship to be soon transported to Bulgaria, in order for secondary autopsies to be carried out.

The search of the 8 still missing sailors continues.
