A total of 68 passengers are to be evacuated from a couple of trains stuck in the snow near the northern Bulgarian town of Silistra.

The passengers have spent the last night in the trains, which were blocked in the snow around midnight.

Despite weather clearing, the situation in parts of Bulgaria after the massive snowfalls over the past two days remains critical.

Roads are still largely impassable in the Pleven, Gabrovo, Russe, and Silistra regions in northern Bulgaria, where strong winds are hampering snow-cleaning activities.

A total of 7 municipalities, chiefly from the Varna, Burgas and Russe regions are still in a state of emergency.
