Bulgaria's legislature is expected to ratify the Lisbon Treaty, signed by the leaders of 27 EU member states, in the first months of next year, the country's EU affairs minister Gergana Grancharova.
Grancharova, along with European Commissioner Meglena Kuneva and several Bulgarian MEPs took part in a roundtable discussion on the reform treaty of the EU.
"I hope the ratification process will not be boring, quite the opposite - that it will open the door for a lively discussion on the details of implementing the treaty," Grancharova said.
There should be no problems with the ratification of the treaty, which will give national legislatures and the European Parliament more powers, she added.
"I would rather have Bulgaria become the first country to fully understand the provisions of the Lisbon Treaty, rather than the first one to ratify it," Kuneva said.
