Bulgarian Teacher Sentenced for Taking Student's Bribe

Society | December 21, 2007, Friday // 00:00

Teacher Valia Paunova was given two and a half years suspended sentence on Friday for taking a bribe from a student.

The court also decided to strip Paunova of rights to teach for four years.

The teacher was found guilty for taking BGN 200 in May in exchange for a passing grade to a student in Bulgaria's Danube town of Ruse.

The trial had been twice postponed because witnesses failed to show up at hearings.
