Bulgaria is due to receive EUR 2,61 B under the rural development programme between 2007 and 2013 from the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development, the European Commission said in a statement on Thursday.
The programme has three major goals - to develop a competitive and innovation based agriculture, forestry and food processing industry (Axis 1); protect the national resources and environment of rural areas (Axis 2); and improve the quality of life and diversify job opportunities in rural areas (Axis3).
Together with national co-financing, the total public expenditure is going to reach EUR 3,24 B.
Bulgaria will receive EUR 963,9 M under Axis 1, EUR 637,5 M under Axis 2 and EUR 702,1 M under Axis 3. The balance of the allocation is for technical assistance and to build capacity for local development and improve local governance, which would help achieve the objectives of the other three axes.
