Police Tows away Trucks Stuck on Bulgaria's Highway

Society | December 5, 2007, Wednesday // 00:00

Trucks that blocked early Wednesday Bulgaria's Hemus highway because of the heavy snowfall are already being towed away.

Police reports that the 18 trucks that were stuck in the snow near the Vitinya tunnel towards Sofia are currently being moved out of the way to unclog traffic but the problem will be completely solved in the evening.

Drivers traveling on the highway to Sofia are advised to use by-pass roads to escape 7-hour waiting in the traffic jam, which starts near the town of Botevgrad.

There are no restrictions to traffic in the opposite direction towards the city of Varna.

Officials said the trucks were not properly equipped for the winter conditions and that is the reason of the traffic blockage.

More snowfalls are expected in Bulgaria this week with snow cover reaching 15 centimetres by Thursday morning.
