The European Commission said on Tuesday it has picked Zinaida Zlatanova and Niculae Idu as the new heads of representation in Bulgaria and Romania, respectively.
The appointments will be finalised after the acceptance of the offer by the candidates and the completion of the required medical check-up, the commission's press service said in a statement.
Heads of representations are responsible for providing information about the EU through recognised outlets such as public libraries, business advice centres and education services, but also for feedback to the EC on public opinion trends in their respective countries.
Zlatanova is a former director of the European affairs directorate with the Bulgarian cabinet and has been involved in Bulgaria's membership negotiations and follow-up over the last six years. She will replace Briton Michael Humphreys.
Idu has been general director at the European Institute of Romania, a research and training institution providing strategic guidelines on European affairs, for the past six years. He will replace Italian Donato Chiarini .
