This year's biggest Christmas tree in Bulgaria's capital city of Sofia does not stands on its usual place near the Presidency building because of the underground construction works.

The15-meter high tree has been placed in front of Rila Hotel.

Its 12,000 lamps have been switched on by the city's Mayor Boyko Borisov on Monday. The lights are made by a special technology so that they cannot harm the tree.

The second Christmas tree, which is to beautify Sofia during the forthcoming holydays, will be placed in front of the National Palace of Culture. It is presented to the city by Austria's capital Vienna on the occasion of the first anniversary since Bulgaria's accession to the EU.
