The municipality of Radnevo, South-Central Bulgaria, declared a state of emergency after downpours left twenty houses and the central square under water.

The district of Stara Zagora, South-Central Bulgaria, is the worst-hit by the torrential rains that swept many parts of the country on Sunday.

Traffic between the towns of Stara Zagora and the nearby Kazanlak was cut off and diverted after the Muglizhka river submerged the main road.

Rescue teams have evacuated seven people from their houses in the village of Malko Kadievo.

There have also been reports of submerged houses in the municipalities of Galabovo and Stara Zagora.

This is the second time this year that Bulgarian authorities are facing an uphill battle in shoring up rescue efforts following the floods that swept northeastern Bulgaria at the beginning of August.

The downpours claimed the lives of eight people and damaged thousands of homes in the worst-hit town of Tsar Kaloyan.

The floods in Tsar Kaloyan followed torrential rains over several days, which came after weeks of sizzling heat, drought and wildfires.
