More than 300 Bulgarian children took part in a cooking show, held on the occasion of the first European Day of Healthy Food and Cooking in Sofia.
The initiative has been organized by the European Commission and Euro-Toques Community of Chefs.
The EC head representative in Bulgaria, Michael Humphreys opened the event in Arena cinema in Mladost neighbourhood.
Students aged 9-12 were played the role of little chefs with white hats and aprons, cooking traditional Bulgarian Tarator cold soup under the encouraging supervision of the Euro-Toques professionals.
"Half of the European population is overweight. We eat much, we don't exercise enough, we suffer diseases", said Michael Humphreys to students and their teachers.
"People in the European Union do not have enough information on healthy food and that is what this event is all about", he added.
Developing healthy nutrition habits at early age is extremely important, according to chefs.
The children gulped down the healthy meals prepared for them by the top chefs and filled the cinema halls to watch a new Disney production.
The healthy cooking initiative was carried out simultaneously in 17 European countries.
Similar events were held in Bulgaria's cities of Stara Zagora, Ruse, Varna, and Burgas.
