The people from the small town of Tsar Kaloyan, which was the worst hit by the floods that swept northeastern Bulgaria at the beginning of August, will start receiving financial help from Wednesday.
They will get BGN 5,000 for each damaged house, the mayor of the town Ahmed Ahmedov announced in an interview for Darik Radio.
The money will come from a donations bank account, while the country will grant the people building materials.
The town will need at least two years to repair its infrastructure, Ahmedov added.
The floods claimed the lives of eight people and damaged thousands of homes in the town of Tsar Kaloyan, whose population largely consists of ethnic Turks.
The floods in Tsar Kaloyan followed torrential rains over several days, which came after weeks of sizzling heat, drought and wildfires.
Experts point out that it will take two years for the town to fully recover. The psychological damage however may prove too deep to heal as people are in great distress and show signs of fear neuroses.
