Fire broke out at a block of apartment in Sofia, inhabited by people with impaired or lost eyesight, due to an apparent short circuit.

The accident occurred at noon and it was only thanks to the quick intervention of the fire-fighters that all tenants were safely evacuated.

Upon their arrival at the scene the fire-fighters saw plumes coming out of the window of an apartment on the eighth floor of the building. A 57-year-old man, his wife and daughter, living in the flat, were the first to be rescued.

Fire- fighters battled the flames for thirty minutes and managed to extinguish the fire and stop its spread.
