The European Commission is to decide on the launch of punitive procedures against several member states, including Bulgaria, for their failure or delay to implement European legislation.

"Bulgaria will be punished because of its delay in carrying out several recommendations," Bulgarian Commissioner Meglena Kuneva said on Monday at a debate on the new EU Reform Treaty.

Bulgaria's unresolved problems regard the garbage waste crisis, the list regarding protected areas to be included in the Nature 2000 network, introducing the unique European emergency number 112 and the biometrical data documents.

A final decision on the punitive measures will be taken on Wednesday at the weekly meeting of the European Commissioners.
