A policeman was killed and four other people injured on Wednesday when a bomb was hurled at a police vehicle in Diyarbakir, the largest city of Turkey's restive mainly Kurdish southeast, international media reported.

A shop was also damaged in the attack, leaving two people injured.

The two other injured were police officers. Some witnesses said the device hurled at the vehicle was hand grenade.

It was not immediately known who was behind the attack.

Separatist Kurdish rebels are active in the region and have routinely attacked the security forces.
