Six Dead in Morning Car Crashes in Bulgaria

Six people were left dead in car accidents on Saturday morning in Bulgaria, the country's Interior Ministry said.

Four heavy crashes in the Russe region alone, in northern Bulgaria, left two people dead.

Another crash in the Pleven region, also in northern Bulgaria, saw a crash off the road, killing one person.

Government data show the death toll in car crashes in Bulgaria is on the rise this year, with 760 people dying over the first nine months of 2007, compared to 741 in the same period of 2006.

However, the number of traffic accidents went down from 6 144 to 5 879, while the number of people injured in January-September was 7 181, compared to 7 659 in the same nine months of last year, data of the traffic police shows.
