Sulphur Dioxide Poisons Bulgaria's Galabovo Village for Third Time

Society | October 5, 2007, Friday // 00:00

The Regional Environmental Inspectorate registered Friday afternoon sulphur dioxide pollution in the village of Galabovo, Central Bulgaria.

The automatic station of the eco inspectorate detected levels of the chemical substance in the village, which more than twice exceeded the allowed threshold.

The output of the two nearby power stations and the power distribution factory is the reason for the pollution, local authorities said.

The operators have been ordered to reduce the power and to use coal with lower sulphur content.

That is the third time when the place faces such pollution after the same was registered in the beginning of March and in the end of August.
