Dozens of young Bulgarians scientists gathered Tuesday in Sofia and rolled pumpkins over the Batenberg Square as a means of protest against the miserable state funding.

By rolling pumpkins on the square, the scientist wanted to show what should be done with illiteracy, i.e. it should be rolled out.

The scientists even organized a competition for speed pumpkin rolling. The police had to stop the traffic several times because of the pumpkin rolling.

Hristo lavchiev, one of the leaders of the protest, explained the young scientist want the government to move on to economy of knowledge.

The protest follows several other ones. The demands of the scientists are for better financing of education in the state budget for 2008, as well as imposing European standards in financing the scientific work and research.
