Bulgaria will be obliged to implement the Eurocodes in construction from 2011, European Affairs Minister Gergana Grancharova said Tuesday at a forum on the steady development of the real estate sector.
Currently, every European Union member state decides whether to implement them or not, but in 2011 their implementation will be made obligatory in order to standardize the designing of buildings.
The overall development prospective of the building sector from 2011 is closely intertwined with the boosting of the energy effectiveness and the reduction of the carbon dioxide emissions.
In Bulgaria the Eurocodes might be implemented through using the resources offered by the EU funds, Grancharova said.
The structural Eurocodes are a set of unified international codes of practice for designing buildings and civil engineering structures, which will eventually replace national codes (e.g. BSI) in the European Community.
Each of the Eurocode parts is produced by a sub-committee under the guidance and co-ordination of a technical committee (CEN/TC 250). Delegates of the 29 ComitГ© EuropГ©en de Normalisation (CEN) members are represented on CEN/TC 250 and its sub-committees.
Eurocodes have been developed to improve the competitiveness of the European construction industry, both within and outside the European Union.
