More than a hundred Sofia citizens gathered in front of Alexander Nevski Cathedral to take part in the bike rally, staged in the capital city for marking the European day without cars on Saturday.

Bulgaria's tennis player Magdalena Maleeva, rap duo Rumanetsa and Enchev as well as representatives of foreign embassies in the country will also participate in the event.

"Sofia is now jammed with cars and the problem could be solved when bike alleys are constructed," the organizers said.

In spite of the initiative, many Sofia citizens have chosen to get on their cars again.
