Sofia Mayor Boyko Borisov officially opened Thursday the renovated newborn ward in the First Obstetrics Hospital in the capital, Darik News reported.

Sofia Municipality bought the brand new, first-class equipment and donated it to the hospital.

"Healthy newborn babies are becoming a rarity," the head of the ward doctor Metodi Yankov.

The reason for this he sees in the unhealthy way of life of the pregnant women, the bad nutrition and the stressed society.

The ward received as a donation five baby incubators and now the hospital has ten places for reanimation of prematurely born children.

The equipment costs BGN 800,000.
