Sofia citizens got a gift from the capital municipality on Monday at the day of the city's holiday when the emblematic Ariana artificial lake was finally filled with water after so many years.

Sofia Mayor Boyko Borisov and President Georgi Parvanov were the ones who open the water pumps and let the fluid fill the pond bed.

The project for the reconstruction of Ariana, which is the first thing people see when they enter the Borissova Garden Park, cost BGN 3 M and was funded by a private Sofia company.

The pond will be completely full within 14 days, Mayor Borissov assured and said there will be boats and water wheels and in winter people can use it as an ice rink.
