The exact number of teachers that participated in the one-hour strike on Saturday is 67%, the vice chairman of the Podkrepa syndicate announced.

The teachers staged their strike on the first day of the school year in Bulgaria - September 15. The most active protestors were in the regions of the Haskovo, Pazardzhik, Ruse, Kardzhali, Pernik, Yambol, Blagoevgrad towns, the cities of Burgas, Varna, Plovdiv and the capital Sofia.

In Plovdiv around 85% of the teachers postponed the official start of the school year, while in Gotze Delchev 30 schools out of 31 protested.

The teachers demand a 100% raise in their salaries, but until now the talks with the Education Ministry have not yielded any results.
