A 36-year-old man died and three other passengers were injured in a heavy car crash on the road between Bulgaria's villages of Sadovets and Krushovitsa Thursday afternoon.

The accident occurred after a lorry veered into the opposite lane and crashed against a Mercedes, whose driver died in hospital few hours later.

One more vehicle that was moving behind the Mercedes did not manage to stop in time and bumped into it.

The three people hurt were also travelling in the Mercedes, a 9-year-old child among them. They have been taken to a hospital in the nearby town of Pleven.

As a result of the collision the truck burst into flames. Later firefighters managed to extinguish the blazes.

The reasons for the accident are still under investigation.
