Large expanses of the world's forests are in rapid decline and could be lost much sooner than expected, a new report by an environmental research group says. Mining, roads and other developments are destroying huge numbers of trees, the Washington-based World Resources Institute (WRI) reports. The report warns that 40% of untouched forest land could disappear within 10-20 years.
