Hurricane Felix has killed at least 98 people in Nicaragua and Honduras and dead bodies are still being recovered, officials reported on Friday.

Great number of the victims are Miskito Indians, who live on the border between the two countries.

Dozens of people are still missing and rescuers are searching the open seas and remote jungle.

Tens of thousands of people have been left homeless, but emergency aid is already reaching the stricken areas.

The disaster hit land in northeastern Nicaragua on Tuesday as a maximum strength category five storm with 160 mph (257 km/h) sustained winds.

Hurricane Felix's devastation comes just two weeks after Hurricane Dean killed tens of people in the region.
