Palestina-born doctor Ashraf al-Hadjudj has surprisingly asked his Bulgarian beloved if she wants to marry him and received her affirmative answer at Sofia Airport on Thursday.

The proposal was made minutes after Ashraf landed in Sofia, coming back from Amsterdam, where he visited his family.

"Would you agree to live with me forever?" the doctor asked. After a few seconds of silence, his sweetheart Olya, 30, smiled and just said "yes".

Then the Palestinian with Bulgarian citizenship gifted her with a golden engagement ring and a beautiful red rose.

The couple has not decided on the exact date of the wedding but revealed it would come very soon.

The two mentioned only they wanted to invite Bulgaria's ex-Foreign Minister Solomon Pasi to be their best man and the present EU Affairs Minister Gergana Grancharova - a sponsor.

Doctor Ashraf met Olya days after he was released from Libyan jail, where he spent eight hard years together with five Bulgarian nurses. They were put behind bars over accusations of deliberately infecting more than 400 Libyan children with HIV.
