A suspected woman suicide bomber blew herself up in a suburb of Jerusalem on Friday, injuring at least eight people, witnesses said, quoted by Reuters. Police gave few immediate details of the explosion which rocked a large supermarket in the Kiryat Yovel district at a time when many Israelis were doing their shopping before the start of the Jewish Sabbath. Several witnesses said the bomber was a woman. Jerusalem police chief Mickey Levy said eight people had been taken to hospital. Ambulance workers put the number at 11. It appeared to be the second Palestinian suicide bombing since the start of the Jewish Passover holiday marking the biblical exodus from Egypt. The blast occurred several hours after Israeli forces entered the West Bank city of Ramallah, 15 km (nine miles) north of Jerusalem, saying it was trying to crack down on militants behind a wave of attacks.
