BRITISH COUNCIL BULGARIA SEEKS TO EXPAND SCIENCE INFO WORK

Society | March 29, 2002, Friday // 00:00

Science information is one aspect of our activities that we would like to see further developed, Kevin Lewis, Director of British Council Bulgaria, said in an exclusive interview for novinite.com. Mr. Lewis pointed out the Council's success in the arts area, which is becoming increasingly collaborative and creative. Asked how he assesses the interest in the activities of British Council Bulgaria, Mr. Lewis expressed astonishment over the number of people who do know about and appreciate its work. One of the latest events which proved its popularity came last week with the public’s applause at the cello master and orchestra workshop, when Robert Cohen (cello) and Mincho Minchev (violin) put together a brilliant orchestra of teenagers who have never played together before. The British Council worked in Bulgaria for a few years after the World War II, but then closed. Towards the end of the 1980s it expanded its work significantly. 2001 marked ten years of the restored formal British Council presence.
