Bulgaria's National Art Gallery marked the 100th anniversary of the birth of the famous artist Nenko Balkanski with an exhibition of 80 of his works.

The display also marks the 30th anniversary of his death. The curator Bisera Yosifova managed to gather at one place more than 80 of his works, which are kept in a number of Bulgarian and international museums.

The exhibition gives a thorough look on Balkanski's work, including figure compositions, landscapes, portraits and still life.

His most famous painting is called "Family".

Nenko Balkanski graduated from the National Art Gallery in 1930. He then went to study in Germany, France and later Italy. In the mid '30s he became one of the founders of the Society of the new artists.
