Nicolas Sarkozy Starts Visit to Libya

France's President Nicolas Sarkozy arrived in Tripoli Wednesday afternoon to meet Libyan leader Muammar Qaddafi after the transfer of the Bulgarian medics was completed.

The French head of state visits the first stop of his African tour, Libya, to sign a partnership agreement between the country and the EU, which is a part of the deal wrapped up over the release of the five Bulgarian nurses and the Palestinian.

The visit, which is to continue less than 24 hours, aims at "helping Libya to join again the orchestra of the other countries".

Sarkozy has previously said his purpose is to establish stable partnership with Tripoli as it is a "strategic factor" in the Mediterranean region as far as terrorism fight and illegal immigration are concerned.

In the evening Colonel Muammar Qaddafi will host a special dinner in Bab-Aziz palace in honour of the French president.
