The number of Bulgarians, who work legally in the Czech Republic, has increased by 65% since the beginning of the year, when Bulgaria joined the European Union, data of the Czech Labour Ministry showed.
For the same 6-month period of time the number of Romanians who started working there has risen by 71%.
Despite the increased number of workers from the two newest EU member states, they make only 2.5% of the 209,300 foreign workers in the country.
A total of 3239 Bulgarians and 2126 Romanians were working in the Czech Republic by the end of June.
The Czech Republic opened its labour marked for Bulgarians and Romanians entirely, something which other EU member states refused to do.
