Independent MP Candidate Shot Dead in Turkey

Independent Turkish MP candidate Tuncay Seyranlioglu was killed in an armed attack in the city of Istanbul early on Tuesday, the victim's web site reported.

The 42-year-old was travelling in his car on a highway when several gunmen opened fire from another car and escaped immediately the shooting.

Seyranlioglu died on the way to hospital. Three other officials, including his secretary, were injured in the incident.

Tuncay Seyranlioglu had run for the July 22 parliamentary elections as an independent candidate from Istanbul's Zone 2.

Seyranlioglu was the owner of a construction and publication company as well as the concessionaire of a local newspaper.
