Bulgarian conductor Emil Tabakov led the symphony Orchestre Regional d'Ile de France in a remarkably successful concert at Paris' Salle Pleyel March 23. The concert, entitled "Arabian Nights," featured an overture from Glinka's "Ruslan and Ludmila," Rimsky-Korsakov's symphonic suite "Sheherazade", and Violin Concerto No. 1 by Polish composer Karol Symanowski with Romanian-born Sylvia Marcovici as soloist. After a round of stormy applause, the orchestra took an encore. Tabakov conducted another two concerts of the Ile de France orchestra, in Oberjeanville and Baison. The Bulgarian conductor is touring Paris for a fourth year running, and this is his third invitation to work together with the Orchestre Regional d'Ile de France.
