US Embassy in Cyprus Confirms Death of Diplomat

The US Embassy in Cyprus confirmed that police has found the body of defense attachГ© Lieutenant Colonel Thomas Mooney.

"The cause of his death is being investigated and any further information will be released as appropriate,'' US Ambassador Ronald Schlicher said in a statement posted on the embassy's Web site.

The body of military attache Tom Mooney, who was declared missing four days ago, was discovered in a remote part of the Mediterranean island in a forest area.

Mooney's car was also found near the scene.

The 45-year-old, who is married with children, was last seen leaving the US embassy in his Chevrolet Saloon car.
