Hurricane Winds Hit Southern Bulgaria

Society | June 29, 2007, Friday // 00:00

Hurricane winds, never seen before, hit Southern Bulgaria late on Thursday night, Darik News reported.

The windstorm hit around 10 pm and in only 20 ferocious minutes managed to cut off the electricity in the town of Kardzhali and to break and eradicate trees.

The airstream moved with 28 m/s and was accompanied by hail.

Many electrical pillars fell, leaving entire neighbourhoods in the dark.

Now units of Civil Defence and the local electricity company are trying to bring things back to normal.
