Followers of the Krishna movement marched along one of Sofia's main boulevards on Saturday to celebrate a major religious holiday - Rathayatra.

The picturesque Krishna procession has become a nearly traditional sight in the Bulgarian capital since its introduction here twelve years ago.

Rathayatra is the International Society for Krishna Consciousness' biggest street festival - it features three huge, wooden chariots pulled by hand accompanied by singing, chanting, drums, cymbals, and dancing. It ends with a stage show, festival and delicious vegetarian prasadam feast.

The festival commemorates Krishna's return to his home in Vrindavan after a long period of separation from the people there.
