Bulgaria's Rila Monastery opened Saturday its church-historic museum after eight months of renovation works.

The precious collection, has been extended and some of the exhibits were restored, including a Glagolhic sheet of paper from 12th century and a pall from 1511.

Museum's most valuable treasure - Rafael's cross - was put on a water and fire-proof pedestal behind an armoured window.

There have been entirely changed the electric, air-conditioning and security systems as well as the lighting and the floorings.

The expenses for the repair works were fully covered by the money, gathered from museum's the entrance tickets fees.

More than 70,000 people visited the museum in 2006. The monastery itself is one of the hundred Bulgaria's national tourist objects and is part of the UNESCO's monuments of culture list.
