The European Commission announced on Monday it is discontented with the list of preserved territories, approved by Bulgaria's Council of Ministers in February this year.
Brussels' objections concern the range of the areas to be protected as part of NATURA 2000 program, as some of them are not in the list presented.
The final list includes 22% of the country's territory although the initial variant provided protection for more than 33%.
The inclusion of 32 terrains at the seaside and in some of the fast developing mountain resorts were temporarily put off as they are of interest to big investors.
The matter is to be discussed in the autumn by the Biological Diversity National Council.
The list's content triggered waves of protests among the eco-activists, who demand that Bulgaria should participate more actively in preserving EU's nature and wildlife.
