The northern German port city of Rostock woke up Saturday crowded with busses and trains bringing thousands of protesters for the upcoming G-8 summit of industrialized powers.

This will be the largest demonstration ever compared to all previous ones as the expected number of protesters is around 100,000. The protest will go under the motto "another world is possible."
The city has already stepped up the security measures, putting in hand some 13,000 police officers.

Hours before the official start of the demonstration, authorities said more than 20,000 protesters had arrived already.

Police helicopters hovered overhead as thousands of demonstrators danced to protest songs and waved flags outside the city's main train station.

The three-day summit opens Wednesday in the nearby resort town of Heiligendamm, where German Chancellor Angela Merkel hosts the leaders of the other G-8 nations - Britain, France, Japan, Italy, Russia, Canada, and the United States.
