Japan's PM Skips Funeral of Scandal-Hit Minister, after Suicide

Japan's prime minister was not among the hundreds of mourners who flocked to the funeral of farms minister Toshikatsu Matsuoka, who committed suicide two days ago, BBC reported.

Agriculture Minister Toshikatsu Matsuoka hanged himself on Monday hours before he was to face questioning in parliament over a political scandal.

Matsuoka's death has been a political blow for Shinzo Abe's government, BBC commented.

The prime minister is already facing his poorest poll ratings since taking office eight months ago, ahead of national elections in July.
