A total of seven people died and 18 were injured after a bomb exploded at a busy marketplace in northeastern India on Saturday.

The bomb was hidden in a ricksha, parked in the centre of Guwahati - the capital city of the state Assam, the local police reported.

There was no immediate claim of responsibility but police said they blamed separatist rebels of the United Liberation Front of Assam that is fighting one of India's longest-running insurgencies to establish an independent homeland in the state.
