Bulgaria: Cyrillic Uniqueness in EU Photo by Nadya Kotseva (Sofia Photo Agency)

On the day when Bulgaria celebrates the holiday of Sts. Cyril and Methodius, the holy brothers who created the Cyrillic alphabet, I guess we all rendered an account on the fact that the Bulgarian language is already one of EU's lingua official.

After years of waiting our language finally got a well-deserved position in Europe and it will have its revival now that the country entered the bloc. I just hope with the boundaries open, Bulgarians, despite their starvation to learn foreign languages, will not forget their own and will keep promoting it throughout the other member states.

The Bulgarian language is the only one that uses the Cyrillic alphabet in United Europe, which makes our country and language unique.

So we, Bulgarians should work harder to open the window into a world where all kinds of religions read and write in the same alphabet - the Cyrillic. Let us continue the work of the brother saints - to make believe the rest of the EU citizens that knowledge and culture know and have no limits.
