Bulgarian capital Sofia, hit by roughly 95 liters of precipitation per square meter at the weekend, is in for more rains, the country's national meteorology institute said on Monday.

Sofia's fire brigade received more than 500 flooding alerts from residents of the city on Sunday alone, mostly related to flooded basements.

In several places, the small rivers criss-crossing the capital overflowed their beds, flooding streets and traffic hubs.

A supporting wall collapsed Sunday evening in Sofia's neighbourhood of Slatina, smashing five cars.

The most serious damages were inflicted along the Boyanska and Vladayska rivers, but none of the accidents caused any injuries.

Two minor landslides blocked for a short period of time the roads to Blagoevgrad and Samokov, which link Sofia to the southern part of the country.
