Bulgaria's University of National and World Economy awarded Monday the Regional Policy European Commissioner Danuta Huebner Doctorate Honoris Causa.

The honourable plaque and diploma were handed to Huebner by the university's Rector Borislav Borissov.

"As a Professor of a Polish University, the honour which you are bestowing on me is particularly meaningful," the commissioner said.

"I believe that globalisation is bringing us tremendous benefits. But I am acutely aware that the impact is distributed across our economies and societies. We have to find a way to manage these processes, giving the European citizens the opportunity to take the opportunities," Huebner said in her speech.

She called on the students to take advantage of the European academic exchange programs in order to develop their knowledge and abilities.
