Bulgaria and Greece are planning to open a new checkpoint at their shared border by the end of 2008.
The checkpoint will connect Bulgaria's village of Avren near Krumovgrad with Mirtiski in Greece and is one of three border points with local meaning that Bulgaria and Greece discussed.
Avren and Mirtiski are just 14 kilometers away from each other, state BNT channel reported.
The road between the two villages has last been open and used more than 60 years ago and it would have to be widened and modernized before the checkpoint opens. Experts believe that this would be the easiest project to realize from technical point of view.
Now that Bulgaria is a member of the EU traffic between the two countries has been made much easier.
